Lašodefona ir pilsētiņa ar 38 000 iedzīvotājiem, kas atrodas zaļā apvidū Šveices Juras kantonā 1000 m virs jūras līmeņa. Pilsētas plānojums, izskats, lielā mērā arī tās raksturs un pat pati tās pastāvēšana ir saistīta ar pulksteņu ražošanas nozari. Pilsētas regulārā plānojuma struktūra liecina par noteiktu un ideālos balstītu pilsētplānošanas pieeju, kas saistās ar Apgaismības laikmetu un kuru izmantoja Lašodefonas rekonstrukcijā un attīstībā pēc ugunsgrēka, kurš nejauši izcēlās 1794. gadā un nopostīja visu pilsētiņu. Šodien Lašodefona ir nozīmīgākais 19. gadsimta pilsētbūvniecības ansamblis Šveicē.
Jūgendstils ienāca Lašodefonā 19. gadsimta beigās, pateicoties pulksteņu ražotājiem un to tirdzniecības pārstāvjiem, tāpēc tā izplatība un popularitāte ir cieši saistīta ar pulksteņu ražošanas nozari. Jaunajās ēkās tika izmantoti dažādi raksturīgi jūgendstila elementi, piemēram, logu rūtis, flīzes, kāpņu telpu apdares, stuka dekori, kokgriezumi un metālkalumi.
Šveices mērogā unikālā Lašodefonas mākslas skola bija vieta, kur jūgendstils atrada savu izpausmi. Būdams aizrautīgs skolotājs un mākslinieks, kam bija tuvi jūgendstila ideāli, Šarls Leplatenjē (1874–1946) attīstīja virzienu, kas savā izteiksmē bija gan oriģināls, gan ambiciozs. 1905. gadā oktobrī progresīvais mākslinieks izveidoja dekoratīvās mākslas un dizaina studijas, kur mākslas skolas studenti mācījās smelties iedvesmu dabā; viņu vidū bija Šarls Eduārs Žanerē, kas vēlāk kļuva pazīstams kā Lekorbizjē. Pārliecība, ka „tikai daba spēj iedvesmot”, lika jaunajam profesoram un viņa studentiem pētīt apkārtnes floru un faunu, izkopjot īpašu izteiksmes valodu – tā saukto „Priežu stilu”.¬ Kopā viņi ir radījuši neskaitāmus izcilus darbus (izpildot gan valsts, gan privātus pasūtījumus), kas liecina par ārkārtīgi rosīgu darbību. Viņi izstrādāja dizainu dažnedažādiem priekšmetiem – sākot no pulksteņu kārbiņām un dažādiem mākslas priekšmetiem līdz pat ēku projektiem, piemēram, villai „Fallet” 1906. gadā. Visspilgtākais no visiem šiem darbiem ir projekts pilsētas krematorijai (1909–1910), kuru uzskata par šī intensīvā radošā pacēluma perioda šedevru.
No ģeogrāfiskā viedokļa ir interesanti atzīmēt, ka Lašodefona atrodas vietā, kur franču un beļģu jūgendstils ar tiem raksturīgajām liektajām līnijām satiekas ar vācu jūgendstilu (Jugendstil) un austriešu secesiju (Sezessionstil), ko savukārt raksturo regulāru ģeometrisko formu izmantojums.
„Mūsu dekoratīvā stila pamatā joprojām ir priede. Dažāda vecuma priedes piedāvā bezgalīgas iespējas kā dekoratīvs materiāls – gan kā vesels koks, gan kā materiāls detaļu izgatavošanai. To bagātīgi papildina lieli dadži, genciānas un līdzīgi augi kopā ar vietējo faunu.”
