The Horta Museum – Saint-Gilles unveils a new exhibition devoted to ornament. Entitled “The Art Nouveau ornament”, it presents a selection whose objective is to show a representative selection of the creations of major artists of European Art Nouveau such as William Morris, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Hector Guimard, Morris Denis and Josef Hoffmann.
From the mansion to the school building, from furniture to ornamentation, from destruction to preservation, the summer school “Brussels, a Journey at the Heart of Art Nouveau” offers a true journey into the heart of Art Nouveau in the company of the best specialists. To commemorate Thonet’s 200th anniversary, the MAK is presenting a major exhibition on modern furniture, in which the signature bentwood furniture of the world famous company is placed in the context of contemporary technological, typological, aesthetic, and historical developments. Thonet’s bentwood chairs are compared with chairs made of tubular steel and plastic as well as with classic office chairs and avant-garde furniture experiments.
The fourth Brussels Art Nouveau & Art Deco (BANAD) Festival will take place from 14 to 29 March 2020. The programme will include guided tours of exceptional Art Nouveau and Art Deco interiors, guided walking, bike and coach tours, exhibitions,lectures, family activities, etc.

Under the moderation of Borys Delobbe (UCLouvain), it will confront the three big Belgian names in Art Nouveau: Françoise Aubry (honorary curator of the Horta Museum), Werner Adriaenssens (curator at the Art & History Museum) and Anne Pluymaekers (director from the Culture pole of the European Center for Research and Training in the Glass Arts).
