Inside Art Nouveau: A website to discover Art nouveau interiors in Brussels

What is behind the Brussels Art Nouveau façades? Are there any original interiors? Is the interior decor as beautiful as the facade? So many questions frequently asked by Brussels residents, Art Nouveau enthusiasts, tourists and even walkers who roam the streets of Brussels, sometimes disappointed not to be able to enter these exceptional places.

From now on, they will find an answer to their questions thanks to the insideartnouveau.eu site, developed by urban.brussels, in collaboration with the Réseau Art Nouveau Network, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year.

Designed to be viewed on all types of devices (computers, tablets, smartphones), this website will allow visitors, whether facing a building or installed comfortably behind their screen at home, to discover inaccessible Brussels Art Nouveau interiors to the general public thanks to documents as diverse as plans, photographs or old or contemporary postcards.

Without taking the place of more exhaustive scientific publications or professional guided tours, notices accompany these photographs of interiors, sometimes punctuated with anecdotes making it possible to imagine the living environment at the turn of the 20th century.

In order not to miss any surrounding buildings, visitors and internet users will be directed to other nearby Art Nouveau works thanks to a dynamic map incorporating a geolocation system.

With more than 60 buildings at the time of its launch, the site will be enriched each year, according to research carried out in the archives.

This pilot project will also be rolled out on a European scale, in other member cities of the Réseau Art Nouveau Network.
